Looking Ahead (March 2015)

I just ran another PR (3:28:00), shaving off almost 20 minutes from last year's course time.  I would say that there is nothing but PRs (current 5K 19:48, 10K 40:56, 15K 1:08:04, Half 1:38:36, and Full 3:28:00) ahead for some time and that this procedure has given me the ability to train and run without pain and suffering.  I could not have imagined that my pain wasn't from running, but instead from diseased veins.  If nothing else might help a person make this decision, my personal, albeit anecdotal, success should be more than enough to help persuade any individual into having this procedure performed.

  2. Hi there! Not sure if you ever check your blog messages anymore, but I just had venous ablation done to both of my legs this past Friday. Has been suffering fro a sudden onset of sluggish, heavy legs and severely diminished running ability. Went from crushing my half marathon PR every year to barely finishing three miles without a walk break. A visit to a vein specialist got me an ultrasound which confirmed venous insufficiency. I'm only a few days out from surgery and am not allowed to run at all for two weeks, but I am excited to try and see if it makes a difference. I, too, am having a hard time believing that my running trouble isn't somehow muscular, but reading your posts has given me hope. Thank you!

    2. Well, it has been nothing but positive for myself. I am 4 min and 30 sec under the Boston cut time (3:05:24), so I get to attempt to register Monday. I also finished 3rd in a 50 mile race back in March and am attempting my first 100 miler on the 24th of this month. If I get into Boston and survive the Georgia Jewell I might actually add another updated post to this blog as to continue to add encouragement and strengthen my position as to the benefits of this procedure. I am sure you will be happy and healthy in due time, just stay positive during your down time and expect about 6 months of training to get everything where you want it.

    3. Also, I wish there were more information out there, but it just doesn't exist. All I know to do is post and share.
